January 13th

Cowboy Campfire and Hay Ride at White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  The White Tank Park will have a campfire, cowboy singer and a hayride from 7pm to 9pm.  There will be hot tea, hot cocoa and cookies.  Meet in Area 4.  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit www.maricopa.gov/parks.

Saturday, January 14thKiwanis/Litchfield Park Annual Winter Trout Fishing Derby.  It is time again for the annual Trout Derby at the Tierra Verde Lake Park in Litchfield Park.  The Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Park stocks the lake with approximately 1,000 trout for the event.  Registration is required and there is a $6 per pole fee for adults and $4 per pole fee for kids 15 and under.  Registration starts at 6am and the derby runs from 7am to 3pm.  The event includes food, prizes and giveaways.  For more information visit the City of Litchfield Park website.

Black Rock Archeology Walk at White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  Check out the evidence left behind by the early people of the Arizona desert.  This 1.5 mile hike on a easy trail (with some rock climbing) will take to you areas not usually accessible by the public.  Meet at Area 4 at 10am for this 2 hour hike.  No dogs allowed.  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit the Maricopa County Website.

Bird Walk with Sonoran Audubon at Estrella Mountain Regional Park.  Every second Saturday of the month join the Sonoran Audubon to observe well over 160 different species at one of the best place to see birds in the Phoenix area.  Bring your own binoculars and books or a limited number will be available.  The walk starts at 8am and runs until 10am.  there is a $6 per vehicle park entrance fee.  For more information visit the Maricopa County Website.

Avondale Farmer's Market at Friendship Park.  Outdoor farmer's market featuring fresh, locally grown foods, products and hand-crafted goods.  For more informations visit www.arizonafarmersmarket.com.

Glendale Glitter & Glow Block Party.  Head down to historic downtown Glendale for the last weekend of Glendale Glitters.  The City of Glendale will be pulling out all the stops with 20 tethered hot-air balloons and 11 different bands performing rock, blues, country and pop music.  16 blocks will be closed off for this annual event that lights up downtown Glendale.  This year also features a LEGO event for the kids!  For more information visit the City of Glendale website.

Sunday, January 15th

Wigwam Farmer's Market.  Shop for locally grown produce from farmer's like Duncan Family Farms every Sunday (thru April 29th) at the Wigwam Front Lawn from 8:30 to 12:30pm.  In addition to produce there is always a great selection of unique food items and home-made crafts.  For more information visit the Wigwam website.

Monday, January 16th

"Keeping the Dream Alive," Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in PebbleCreek.  The Just Folk Association of PebbleCreek will be hosting their 2nd annual event in the Tuscany Ballroom and it will feature Valley professionals, spiritualists and entertainers and West Valley church and public officials.  For more information visit the City of Goodyear website.

Friday, January 6th

Family Moonlight Hike at White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  Hike the Black Rock Long Loop Trail after sunset to see the desert from a different point of view.  Bring your flashlight and meet in Area 4.  No dogs please.  This two hour hike will begin at 7pm.  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit White Tank Mountain Regional Park website.

The Big Read Kick-Off Crafting Gatsby Exhibition and Preview Party.  This free event features original artwork inspired by the novel "The Great Gatsby" or that era.   Located at the West Valley Arts Council from 6 to 8pm..  Visit the West Valley Arts Council website for more information.

Saturday, January 7th

20th Annual Litchfield Park Native American Art Festival "The Gathering."  The City of Litchfield Park will be holding their annual Litchfield Park Native American Art Festival featuring the finest Southwest Native American artists this weekend, January 7th and 8th from 10am to 4pm.  In addition there will be all day entertainment and food.  This year's even will feature a tribute to Native military veterans.  Admission is $5, veterans and active-duty military with ids and 12 and under are free.  The festival will be located at Litchfield Elementary School.  For more information visit the City of Litchfield Park website.

Creepy Crawlies of White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  Meet at the White Tank Nature Center at 10am for a talk about the cold blooded creatures that live in our Arizona desert.  Venomous creatures and creepy crawlies are on display in the Nature Center.  There is a $2 per person or $6 per vehicle fee.  For more information visit White Tank Mountain Regional Park website.

Healthy Litchfield Park.  Get the New Year started off right!  At 1pm the City of Litchfield Park will host a Healthy Litchfied Park event on the Litchfield Park Library Lawn.  This first event of many will feature a short community hike or jog through Litchfield Park.  There will be music, healthy living presentations and demonstrations along with games, raffles, snacks and fun.  For more information visit the City of Litchfield Park website.

Upcoming Events

Litchfield Park Winter Trout Fishing Derby January 14th.  Over 1000 trout will be stocked in the Tierre Verde Lake in Litchfield Park for this annual fun event.  There will be food, prizes and giveaways as well.  A fishing license is not required for this event.  The fee is $4 per pole for those 15 and under and $6 per pole for those over 16.  The event runs from 7am to 3pm.  For more information visit the City of Litchfield Park website.

Holiday Light Displays

Litchfield Park Home Tour of Lights.  Every year the residents of Litchfield Park light up the town with their holiday light displays.  So load up the family and some hot cocoa and enjoy!

Arizona Celebration of Lights now thru Jan 1st.  Drive through a mile-long show featuring hundreds of animated figures, tunnels and arches made with more than 7 million lights!  This 14th annual light show also has Santa's Village where you can take photos with Santa and sip hot cocoa.  There's also a train ride, bounce houses and a giant slide.  Located at the Phoenix Event Comples at 2209 N 99th Ave.  The fee is $15 per car.  For more information including hours visit www.arizonacelebrationoflights.com.  Buy your tickets at Walgreens and save!

Wednesday, December 21st

Winter Solstice Hike at White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  Enjoy a dark hike under a sliver of a moon and learn about the history of the people that used this area between 400 and 900 A.D.  Bring a flashlight to this 2 hour hike.  No dogs allowed.  Meet at Area 4.  Hike starts at 7pm.  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee. Thursday, December 22nd

Desert Wash Hike at White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  Join the park rangers for this hike in the Mesquite Wash (could be challenging for small children or those with physical limitations due to the rough terrain).  The ranger will discuss the local plants and animals and hikers will get a unique view of the geology that formed the White Tanks.  Meet at Area 9 at 10am. No dogs allowed. There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee. For more information visit www.maricopa.gov.

Friday, December 23rd

Luminary Hike at White Tank Mountain Regional Park.  Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays and enjoy the beautiful view of luminaries lined up along the flat 1/4 mile Black Rock Short Loop trail from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm Friday night. Afterward enjoy marshmallows, and hot chocolate or hot tea by the campfire.  No dogs allowed.  Black Rock Short Loop is located at Area 4. There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee. Sunday, December 25th

Christmas Day Family Dinner at the Wigwam in Litchfield Park.  The Wigwam is offering two dining choices for Christmas dinner for those that don't want to cook.  Red's Bar & Grill will be hosting a buffet from 11am to 7pm.  The cost is $33 for adults, $17 for Children 4-12 and Children under 4 are free.  Litchfield'd will be offering a three course dinner from 3pm to 8pm for $33 per person.  For more information visit www.wigwamresort.com.

Sunday December 11

Thursday December 1

Litchfield Park Library Celebrates Re-Opening.  After a month of renovations the Litchfield Park Branch Library is celebrating it's re-opening starting at 9:30am.  Updates to the library include a new customer service desk, new carpeting, shelves, Dewey-less arrangement, newly painted walls, more computers and new furniture including laptop-friendly armchairs, a children's table and a children's play box.  The formal event features remarks from County Supervisor Max Wilson (R-District 4) and Tina Norwalk, administrator of the Litchfield Park Library Association.  For more information visit the Litchfield Park Branch Library website.

Friday December 2

White Tank Branch Library Story Time.  Story time for toddlers and preschoolers from 10:15am to 11am.  For more information visit the White Tank Branch Library website.

Saturday December 3

Home Plate for the Holidays at Goodyear Ballpark.  Enjoy pancakes, sausage, egss and a beverage with Santa at 4pm.  In addition there will be arts and crafts vendor booths,and 40 tons of snow!  isten to local elementary school carolers or play on the inflatable activities.  Admission and parking is free.  Reservations for breakfast with Santa can be made by calling 623-882-3120 or visit the City of Goodyear website for more information.

Buckeye 16th Annual Hometown Holiday Boutique & Winter Wonderland.  The event includes boutique shopping with arts and crafts vendors, vendors selling books, jewelry, candles, beauty products and clothing.  There will also be free bingo, a community yard sale, a petting zoo, a rock-climbing wall, live entertainment, Friends of the Buckeye Public Library book sale, Santa photos, Chihuahua races, snow, food, antiques and an auction.
